The things you can do to reduce buffering for example in tivimate settings try different buffer sizes, connect device to modem with wire, clear cache 3very day unplug modem and device for 10 minutes every week. Slower or laggy internet may also cause buffering there are others I'm sure
I think it's a problem with the sticks wifi, changing the channel on the router only helps if there are alot of users around him, he says his smartphone and pc are fine, plus i think the default channel on the router is No 1. I use a program on my pc called inSSIDer Home to check how many people are around me and what channels they are using. I had a android box that did the same thing, i sent it back and the new one is fine.
